Shopping near Grafton Street where I picked up my souvenirs- a bright mango rain coat and a Claddagh ring.
Tour of Trinity College guided by a second year student. We finished off the tour by taking a look at the Book of Kells. The book is over 1,000 years old and contains lavishly decorated copies (written in Latin) of the four Gospels. We also took a walk through the expansive Old Library where the books are arranged by size rather than author or genre.
One of Arnold Pomodoro's Sphere Within a Sphere sculptures. There are many scattered around the world, including one right here in D.C. |
More shopping on Grafton where John snagged a fancy new pair of leather lace up boots.
Murphy's Ice Cream round 2- salt and rum raisin.
Boarded the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) to Howth. As soon as our feet hit the ground, we started our hike towards The Summit and then continued on to Bailey's Lighthouse at the cliffs. Google Maps was not cooperating. So, we ended up venturing along the cliffs for about 5 miles before calling it a day, wandering away from the trail and walking through a swanky neighborhood to get back to the town.
We then walked along the docks to the Howth Lighthouse as the sun was setting. Beautiful!
Fun fact: In Ireland (and supposedly, all of Europe), you have to request to have your dinner check unlike in the USA where the wait staff bring it to you shortly after you finish eating. I really like the EU way. It lets you focus more on the experience of dining rather than rushing to the next thing.
DART back to Dublin. Then, get ready--Murphy's round 3- browned butter and chocolate chip. We got called out for going 2x in one day, but we felt like we had to get one final taste of the best ice cream in the world before leaving town.
Goodnight.
